The Peace and Power of Knowing Your Purpose in Life

Each of us looks for success and authentic happiness in our own way. Sometimes the desire for success becomes a call so loud and so powerful later in our lives that we have to take some time and redirect our attention and commit ourselves to figuring it out. This may cause us to return to deep gratification we may have had signs of in our past. At an earlier time, we may have needed the courage to follow the call or we may have allowed life’s stresses and serious pursuits, careers, or other personal obligations cover up the spark of what we once knew to be true about ourselves.

This pattern takes place in the lives of so many people because each of us has a life purpose that we all inherently believe has been with us since we were young. At moments when we experience a deep sense of being in the flow-being in the right place, at the right time, using our gifts-we are likely to be at long last living out our life’s purpose, even if for only that one minute in time.

Life purpose calls us forward. It may be an assignment we answer, something larger than our small selves, that deeply unites us with others, with what is larger than ourselves. We know it when we see it. Our calling may be quiet, but it is always there throughout our lives. We were put here for a reason and we were individually wired and gifted to do at least one thing in this world that really matters. For those of us who are living out their calling every day, our work never seems like work at all. It is, in many ways, an extension of who we are.

I have learned that to truly live your purpose you have to be aligned with:

  1. God
  2. Your passion/talent
  3. Your priorities
  4. Your values

Then and only then, can you begin to live the life you were meant to live and make a real difference.

And, there’s no doubt that you’ll be most fulfilled when you are living your purpose. Your life will become easy and will begin to flow with an ease and grace that many, unfortunately, never experience.

And, even more good news: If you haven’t started on the journey, it’s never too late. You can start now.
